Crowns and Bridges

Dental Crowns & Bridges

If you are missing one or more teeth, a solution may be a crown or a bridge. A crown will sit over a tooth that might be broken or have become weak. A crown will return a tooth to its former strength and produce a natural looking shape. If one or more teeth are missing, a bridge will stop the surrounding and will restore both appearance and function.

Crowns for Front Teeth

With front teeth, crowns appearance is the most important consideration. One problem is finding a material for crowns that is strong and resilient enough to last in our teeth’s tough operating environment.

Dental Crowns have been used since the 1960s and have proved to be an excellent solution for the restoration of broken teeth. But Dental Crowns like everything else in life can have their problems that cane be:

  • Appearance
  • Functional
  • Longevity

Problems with appearance and/or function will almost always be picked up at the fitting stage. When you go to the dentist he will make sure that the crown is comfortable and blends in with your teeth. Once the crown is fitted it is impossible to remove it so it is important that you mention any problems at this stage.

The longevity of dental crowns will be determined by the precision of their original manufacture and how the patient looks after their teeth. You should continue to brush your teeth thoroughly and floss them taking special care to ensure that the tooth or crown margins are always kept clean.

Dental Crowns – The Process

The process will generally go as follows:

  • Initial diagnosis is made.
  • Restoration recommended.
  • The Tooth structure will be reduced to a stump, known as a ‘preparation’.
  • Impression will be taken and sent to the dental laboratory.
  • The new dental Crown will be fitted approx. two weeks later.

The whole process is likely to take about four or five weeks from start to finish.

At Confidental Dental Clinic we have a wealth of experience in Dental Crowns and many satisfied clients who have had their smile restored by our Bridges and Crowns.
